Tonny Skammelsen Schmidt was born in Denmark in 1968 and studied at the Copenhagen Technical School.  After success in his homeland Tonny moved to Portugal in 2001 where he found the daylight hours, peace and inspiration he needed to pursue his art to another level.
Tonny believes that abstract paintings speak to us in a visual language.  It is the process of unfolding, understanding and developing the secrets of the painting that inspire him.  ‘’Painting is like tapping into a knowledge in our subconscious mind.  That is why when I paint, I try not to have a preconceived idea and let the painting flow onto the canvas´´
